Grand Anaicut

A Chola king of the eleventh century is said to have constructed a massive dam of stine 329m(1080ft) long and about 18m(60ft) broad, to keep the Cauvery separate from the kollidam and divert it towards Thanjavur district. The magnificent achievement of Chola engineers endures to this day and continues to perform its purposeful role. Decorated with vegetation, it is a lovely picnic spot to Trichiaites becauseĀ of the easy access althoush the actual location is in the neighbouring district of Thanjavur.
